Synopsis:

What would you do if the only things standing between you and the angel you love were another angel and the fiery pits of Hell?

When Anya and Micah declare their love for each other, the battle for the souls of the star-crossed angels stretches across the heavens. With Heaven forbidding their love, Micah vows to protect Anya by sentencing himself to Hell.

But Anya won’t let him go without a fight. She goes into Hell after him, only to discover an angel from Micah’s past is willing to do anything to keep Micah in Hell.

With love and lies blinding Micah, Anya fights to get him to face his demons and return to Heaven, even if it means hearts will be broken.

The battle for the angels begins where it left off. Between Heaven and Hell is forbidden love.

*Mild Spoilers for Adorned*

I’m really excited to be participating in the Cloven Blog Tour today! I so enjoyed this book, and I hope my review encourages you guys to go out and buy it!

Adorned, the first in The Trinity of Souls series was enjoyable. It was a fun, interesting, new take on the Angel genre, going in a refreshing new direction (as opposed to the Fallen Angel bad-boy idea-which is great, but slightly overused). In Cloven, Georgeann Swiger takes her series to a whole new level, creating edge-of-your-seat conflict, detailed settings and swoon worthy romance.

Suffice to say, I greatly enjoyed Cloven.

If you’ve read Adorned you know that Swiger left us with a rather mean cliffhanger. The beginning of Cloven throws us right into the fray of what happened directly after Anya dies…and is sent to Hell. That’s right. A good portion of this book takes place in the good ole Underworld, and that’s always a good time, am I right? It certainly makes our heroine face her fears, decide what is truly important to her, and see how far she is willing to go to get what she wants, nay, needs. I liked Anya quite a bit more here than in Adorned; we finally get to see what she’s really made of, and by the end, it’s impressive. She has a few If Micah and I can’t be together, life isn’t worth living whiny moments, but I can forgive her since she stepped it up when things got serious.

And serious, things got. When you’re making meetings with the devil himself, you know stuff is serious. Lucifer does indeed make an appearance and it is chilling; I also sense that it will not be his last moment of the series. But the real villain at this point, for me at least, was Dahlia. Oh, she has a past Micah, sure. She takes care of him some. I wanted Anya to slap her across the face every time she opened her mouth.

Micah was far more swoon worthy and less annoyingly bossy in Cloven. Seeing him in his element (awesome angelic soldier) was great, and I felt worse for him than I did for Anya when their relationship is called into question. Everyone believes he should have been able to avoid loving a human, and it makes him less angelic that he didn’t.  Dahlia’s power over him is a great conflict, and it creates the opportunity for Anya to help herself rather than relying on Micah to save her.

I missed Eli. I practically jumped for joy when he FINALLY appeared.

With a bleak setting, life or death conflict, forbidden romance and oodles of character development, Cloven is a must-read stand out in the Angel genre.

Perfect for fans of Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton.
