Good Reads Summary:
Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.
After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world?
With pleasure.
All Katy can do is survive.
Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?
Together, they can face anything.
But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?
And will they even be together?
I HAVE SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS SERIES. AND IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER.
I’m serious. I love these books.
Katy and Daemon are way too cute. And in this book, it’s taken to a whole new level. The stakes are raised sky high.
This book is INTENSE. I was actually surprised by some of the things that happened. People died, new enemies were uncovered, people died…it was a good ole kick in the feels.
I don’t even really know what to say in this review. I really really loved this book. JLA gave us an up-close-and-personal book with Daedalus, gave us more info about the mysterious Luc, and didn’t skimp on the Daemon and Katy scenes. As I’ve said before, I love JLA’s writing style. It’s smooth and confident, consistent and entertaining. I LOVED that it was in both Katy and Daemon’s POV. Getting into Daemon’s head was fun, and gave a completely different perspective to certain scenes, especially with some of the terrible stuff that happened to both of them.
The ending, or rather, the CLIFFHANGER, brought in a whole new conflict that I can’t wait to explore further. So many things changed in Origin, it almost feels like a different series than the first books. It’s more intense, darker, more exciting, steamier…you name it. I loved the previous books, but this was even better.
For anyone who read Obsession, you will recognize a scene in there where Daemon visits Luc and just maybe runs into a certain grumpy yet loveable Arum.
SO MANY PEOPLE DIE. I think I already said that. It was like an episode of The Vampire Diaries; I mean, there are barely any people left in Mystic Falls to kill off. I sort of started feeling that way about Origin. Anyway, the deaths just raise the stakes even more, making the reader more invested in Katy and Daemon’s lives, hoping, praying and crossing their fingers that JLA would NEVER kill one of the leads off.
That would be a shocker.
Anyway, this series is incredibly fun and romantic if you like a good YA sci-fi/fantasy romance. JLA is obviously one of my favorite authors right now, and I would definitely recommend her YA work to anyone!
