So, I, unsurprisingly was at Disney World last week (it was for an audition), but of course I spent some time in the parks. Partly because…….I’M A NEW ANNUAL PASSHOLDER!
I was pretty ridiculously excited. I’ll probably do a post where I talk about the awesome benefits of being a passholder, because there are some good ones. Anyway, as you all probably know, I could talk about Disney for forever. But it’s been such an exciting journey every time I go to learn about the resort and all the exciting things they offer. And I think most people may not know about many of those things. When you think of Disney World, you think Cinderella’s castle, rides like Pirates of the Carribbean and the spinning teacups, and lots of park food like hot dogs and popcorn and Mickey Ear Ice Cream.
But really, there’s so much more to Disney World. I used to imagine the same things that I said above, except now I also think of all the exciting resorts to stay in, and all the really amazingly themed sit-down restaurants, etc…of course, the classic rides and theme park food is incentive enough to go, but I’ll be sharing a different restaurant or experience that I’ve had or want to have, just to spread the Disney love a little.
So this week, we’re talking about the Sci-Fi Dine in Theater.
Located in Hollywood Studios, The Sci-Fi Dine In Theater is probably the coolest themed restaurant I’ve eaten at in all of Disney World; now I have an extremely long list of places I still need to try, so this doesn’t mean I’m an expert, but I highly recommend you try to get a reservation here for your next vacation, because it’s crazy fun.
First of all, your table is actually in a 5o’s style convertible. The lights are very dim inside to give the room the effect of being outside at a real drive-in theater. The screen at the front plays clips from hilarious terrible old b-movies that will have you cracking up your entire meal. I had a delicious hamburger, but you can get everything from a vegetarian shepherd’s pie (my friend had this and it was delicious) all the way to a steak. We topped the meal off with a scrumptious Hot Fudge Sundae (plenty big to split-in fact, my burger would easily feed two). Everything was great. The waiters are awesome too (as most Disney cast members are) and were asking us who the hitch hikers in the back of the car were (another family was sharing our car “table”) and asking why I went from Texas to Kentucky to pick them up and then down to Florida. The check had “Speeding Ticket” and “Parking Violation” stamped on it. The entire experience is just so fun and entertaining.
If you’re looking for a themed experience that you won’t find anywhere else, Sci-Fi Dine In Theater is one of the restaurants that truly embodies the Disney experience; it doesn’t have Mickey and Co, but the theming is incredibly detailed, and the food is delicious. I will definitely be going back sometime in my next few visits. And as far as cost, this one (depending of course on what you order) isn’t as high as many of the sit-down restaurants at Disney World, and of course, they give you so much food that you could easily split. I highly recommend this for everyone, although the dark atmosphere and semi-scary clips (most are from weird sci-fi movies, hence the name) might be a little much for really little ones, but slightly older kids will appreciate the awesome theming and yummy burgers and fries (and Hot Fudge Sundaes!).
5 out of 5 stars.
