Reader Recommends #15: WWJD?

Reader Recommends

This Week’s Topic: What Would Jesus Do? Best books with religious or inspirational themes.

This doesn’t necessarily have to be Christian books; this week’s topic is all about those spiritual or religious books that speak to your soul. Which are your favorites?

Redeeming Love

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

This is my favorite Christian Romance; it’s based on the story of Hosea in the Bible and is a beautiful picture of how God pursues us.  I’ve actually read two different versions of this book: the first was the original publication, which read like a romance novel (graphic sex scenes and all) and the second version has been edited, removing the sex. So I guess depending on your preferences, check the edition to see which one you have. Also, pretty much anything by Francine Rivers is fantastic; I highly recommend her Mark of the Lion Trilogy as well.

Made to Crave

Made to Crave by Lysa TerKeurst

As someone who struggles with weight issues, I really loved this book. Lysa TerKeurst is funny, insightful, and really understands the struggle. She doesn’t say “it’s easy, just don’t eat anything you actually like.” She talks about how hard it is; Made to Crave is a devotional made to deepen your relationship with God through understanding your struggle with food.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

I just finished listening to The Magician’s Nephew, and it always strikes me how beautiful Aslan’s character is, and then I remember He’s a parallel for Jesus, and it makes the story even more beautiful. If you’ve never read The Chronicles of Narnia, I highly recommend it, especially if you love Fantasy.

Next Week’s Topic: Quirky Best Friend

They’re always there to make a snarky remark when the main character is feeling down. They usually have crazy fashion, an adorably nerdy boyfriend, and best of all, they’re fabulously loyal to their best friends. Which quirky best friends are your favorites?

If someone had asked me to pick a best inspirational book, I would have picked Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers also! That was one of my all time favorites. It was so touching, so beautifully written.

I would also suggest her Mark of the Lion series. If you haven’t read those, you have to try them. They were so moving. It’s a trilogy.
