Reader Recommends #4: Ghost Stories

Reader RecommendsReader Recommends is a fun meme created here at Ramblings on Readings where we recommend 3-5 books (or more!) based on certain given topics. This is a great way to see what other readers are enjoying in your favorite genres, or maybe find a new favorite series!

Rules:

Every Thursday, I’ll be posting the current Reader Recommends, along with the topic for the next edition. Choose up to five books or series you would recommend based on the topic or genre. If you haven’t read the topic, you can post books you are interested in reading based on the topic.

Add your post to the Link-up at the bottom of each Reader Recommends post to see other bloggers’ suggestions, and make some new friends! Be sure to comment on my post if this is your first time so I be sure to stop by your blog!

So I’m not gonna lie, I haven’t read that many ghost stories. But I wanted to see what your suggestions were, so here are a few I’ve enjoyed, and also some on my To-Read Shelf!

Next Week’s Topic (March 19): Zombies

-Similar to ghosts, these guys just want to complete some unfinished business…and it most likely consists of eating your brains. Lets make a solid list of zombie books for the blogosphere to check out!

And now, here’s what Ramblings on Readings recommends for Ghost Stories!

(if you haven’t watched Muppet Christmas Carol, that is my first recommendation)

Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake

This is one that I have actually read and it is awesome. It’s super creepy. Anna is a violent ghost that is mysteriously connected to a house, and Cas has to figure out why…before he kills her. DUN DUN DUN. Cas kills the dead. You read that right. This is like, an episode of Supernatural, but with a bit more romance. It was great, but it is uber creepy.

Sabriel (Abhorsen #1) by Garth Nix

I have loved this book since the first time I read it probably eight years ago. Sabriel is a necromancer, and she can control the different gates in Death. I’m not sure this is strictly ghosts, but it has to do with spirits in the afterlife, so we’re gonna say it’s about ghosts. One of my very favorite Fantasy books. There’s a sassy cat sidekick, a noble and soft-spoken love-interest, and a kickass heroine who can literally control death.

The Secret Life of Sparrow Delaney by Suzanne Harper

It’s been a very long time since I read this book last, but I remember absolutely loving it. It’s much lighter than the others on this list; it’s about a psychic girl who has this ghost boy following her around to try to get her to help him. I remember it being clever, entertaining, and romantic. It’s on my “to-reread” list, which is a very short list.

Compulsion (The Heirs of Watson Island #1) by Martina Boone

This sounds amazing and creepy, and Jennifer L. Armentrout loved it, so I’m sure I will too.

What other Ghost Stories should I add to my To-Read Pile?

I’m with you! I picked a few but it was tough. I think I’m skipping zombies but I’m already thinking of good books with bad covers for later on.
