Reader Recommends is a fun meme created here at Ramblings on Readings where we recommend (or warn you about!) 3 books based on certain given topics, and then 3 books we may want to read for the same reasons. This is a great way to see what other readers are enjoying in your favorite genres, or maybe find a new favorite series!
This week’s topic: Awesome Assassins!
This genre essentially exploded a few years ago, and for a while there, every heroine you saw was an assassin of some sort. Here are three of my favorites!
Graceling (Graceling Realm #1) by Kristin Cashore
This entire series is just brilliance all around (Fire is probably my favorite?). Essentially it centers around the idea that a few, rare people have certain skills called “Graces”, and Katsa’s just happens to be killing people. It’s got tons of action, an awesome love story, and just beautiful writing. I definitely need a re-read asap.
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas
Would this be a real list about assassins if I didn’t include Throne of Glass? I’m not gonna lie, I stopped reading this series around the fourth book when Maas truly ruined Chaol’s character. Everyone tells me I need to keep reading, and I probably will eventually, but you guys, I loved Chaol, and I hate what she did to him. Anyway. This is like, the assassin book that really got the ball rolling for YA assassin heroines. If you’ve never read this series, for sure pick it up. It’s intense.
Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1) by Robin LaFevers
My favorite assassin nuns! This series is AWESOME! I’m thrilled we’re getting a continuation (I really enjoyed Courting Darkness this year!). Grave Mercy centers around nuns from the Convent of Saint Mortain (The God of Death) and their work in the Court of Brittany. There’s tons of politics, lots of spy work, and delicious romance. So. Highly. Recommended.
Assassins on my TBR List
Ok, I was sort of stunned to not find any on my TBR. What are your recommendations? I need more assassins in my life! Tell me your faves in the comments, or link up and I’ll come see what you recommend!
