Today we’re talking about our favorite books of the year! I’m going to list my top 5, and I’d love to hear what your favorites were! I’m grouping some by their series, even if the earlier books didn’t come out this year. If you have a similar post, drop a link in the comments so I can come check it out!
These are in no particular order. They were all fantastic.
The Folk of the Air Series by Holly Black
Can I just say I have a soft spot for poor baby Cardan. I love him. He’s a mess but by the end of the third book I was madly in love. Jude is a strong heroine who also makes some really terrible choices but ends up alright in the end. Holly Black is queen of the fae, and this series if filled with the weird, the magical, the ruthless, and the cunning. This series killed me. I wish I could go back in time to read it again for the first time.
The Blood of Stars Series by Elizabeth Lim
I was not expecting this series to be so fantastic. Spin the Dawn was a remarkable fantasy with clever characters, drawing inspiration from Asian culture, with a unique plot and delightful romance. Technically Unravel the Dusk doesn’t come out until July 2020, but I was lucky enough to snag a copy on Netgalley, and let me just say, it was as epic as the first. Elizabeth Lim is now on my “authors to watch” list! Check out my review of Spin the Dawn here!
The Origin Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout
If you know anything about me and my reading habits, you’ll know JLA is one of my all time favorite authors. So OF COURSE I had to read her new series! I’ve always said Roth was my favorite of her boys, but I have to say, Luc is really giving him a run for his money. JLA knows how to give the people exactly what they want.
The Bridge Kingdom (The Bridge Kingdom Series #1) by Danielle L. Jensen
I devoured this book in one day. ONE DAY. I loved the world building, the romance, the leads were to die for…everything was awesome. If you like secret assassins, mysterious heroes, and forbidden romance, this is the book for you. I am distraught that there is no official release date for the second book yet. You can read my full review here!
The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden
Winter of the Witch was a beautiful conclusion to this incredible and unique series. This is a really interesting fantasy series based in Russian folklore, and I loved it! The first one was a little slow in the beginning, but the second two fly. Highly recommended for fantasy lovers.
