So, totally dropped the ball again last week for Quirky Best Friends, which stinks because I actually had some good choices for that. Oh well. C’est la vie.

Reader Recommends

This Week’s Topic: Mystery

What are those books that keep you guessing to the end? Maybe they’re just mysterious enough to keep you questioning the main characters motives or where the heck that crazy plot is heading. We’re sharing our favorite mystery novels this week!

Grift

Grift by Jason Mosberg

I read this a few months ago as a review request, and I was a little surprised to really enjoy it. Set in Vegas, this book follows teenage con artists as they work the Strip; mystery surrounds much of this book, including a few of the characters and one of the major plots. Lots of fun, with some good romance, and of course, Vegas!

The Naturals

The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

I love this series; it’s been described as Criminal Minds for the YA crowd. It’s about teenagers who solve crimes, learning more about their unique gifts (profilers, science/math whiz, etc) along the way. It gets pretty creepy as they race to solve a string of murders, before anyone else gets killed.

Soulless by Gail Carriger

Someone is wreaking havoc in London’s supernatural circles, and it’s up to Alexia Tarabotti and her tricked-out parasol to discover who. This steampunk mystery/romance is way too much fun; the dialogue is utterly charming and hysterical, and there’s plenty of paranormal, steampunk, mystery, and historical elements to add even more awesomeness to the plot.

Tabula Rasa

Tabula Rasa by Kristen Lippert-Martin

Sarah doesn’t remember who she is. All she knows is she’s in some hospital where they are doing tests on her brain. And it’s implied that it’s better she doesn’t remember anything. This book takes place over mere days and is all about Sarah trying to figure out who she is and why she’s at the hospital (which is quickly overrun with trigger happy mercenaries trying to kill her). Extremely fast-paced and suspenseful, I read this one lighting fast.

What are your favorite Mystery series?

Next Week’s Topic: Werewolves

Sometimes cuddly, always ferocious, werewolves really picked the short straw when it comes to supernatural abilities. That doesn’t make them any less awesome or loveable; next week we’ll share which novels include our favorite shape shifters!
