Book: Unwind by Neal Shusterman
4 Stars
This was an excellent, exceedingly tough read. The entire idea of Unwinding is so horrific. Neal Shusterman writes strong characters who go through really tough situations, and have to grow up really fast. A magnificent addition to the Dystopian genre. Warning: disturbing images. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Good Reads Synopsis:
Connor, Risa, and Lev are running for their lives.
The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child “unwound,” whereby all of the child’s organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn’t technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.
Movie: Anna Karenina
Rating: R for sexuality and violence
3.5 Stars
Trailer:
This movie gets 5 million stars for style. I kind of hate the story, but the way this movie was filmed and staged was absolutely breathtaking. The costumes were gorgeous, the staging absolutely brilliant and the acting is excellent. A good watch for someone interested in stylistic movies. As a stage actress, there were some very fun scenes to watch in this movie, as much of it takes place in a theater.
IMDB Synopsis: Set in late-19th-century Russia high-society, the aristocrat Anna Karenina enters into a life-changing affair with the affluent Count Vronsky.
TV Show: Gilmore Girls
5 Stars
I cannot recommend seasons 1-3 of Gilmore Girls highly enough. It is one of the best written shows I’ve ever seen, with heartwarming storylines and hysterical subject matter. It kind of went downhill starting in season 4, but the rest of the seasons are still enjoyable.
Synopsis: A drama centering around the relationship between a thirtysomething single mother and her teen daughter living in Stars Hollow, Connecticut.
And oh yeah…I updated my site 🙂
