Saturday Shuffle #11: The Devil Went Down to Georgia

Today’s song is a reminder that they don’t make songs like they used to. Much, at least. I’ve always really liked The Devil Went Down to Georgia; aside from the fact that the fiddle on this song is awesome, there’s something superbly fun about the story of Johnny challenging the Devil to a fiddle contest and beating him. This type of music isn’t my usual cup of tea, but this song is always a great listen.

    Hi Jessica.
This song must date to the late seventies. I don’t know what it is, but it definitely has a lasting charm to it.Perhaps you are right, and it is the story being told that makes it endearing and enduring.
I think it is pretty funny that a young Australian girl can relate to this song.
Thanks for the blast from the past.
    Your pal,

Haha Are you saying I’m Australian? (I’ve lived in the US my whole life; oops, we must have had a miscommunication somewhere lol). But yes, the story is great and so fun. Stories are so often why art lasts, because the story speaks to people. I’m not sure if this story necessarily speaks to people, but it’s certainly a very fun piece of music!
