So this is not my usual cup of tea. I generally don’t read horror books (unless you count zombie or paranormal books), nor do I see horror movies. So reading this short story was a little out of my comfort zone.

You may be thinking, hmm…short story, not a whole lot must happen…WRONG. This book would be the climactic scene of a full-length novel or movie. It was terrifying, fast-paced, incredibly gruesome, and left me with far more questions than answers.

At times the writing was a little clunky, which is why I gave it three stars rather than higher. Sometimes I would read a sentence and I would have to go back and re-read it to understand what was being said. Or sometimes things were just awkwardly phrased. With only thirty pages, I didn’t expect more than one point of view, but the story was told from Ashley and Jason’s POV. You know practically nothing about both of these characters except that they somehow ended up at some psycho’s house that they are trying to escape from. In which they are chased by multiple maniacs with assorted unsanitary weapons.

Like I said, not my cup of tea. However, it kept my attention for the full thirty pages, and I REALLY want to know what is going on with the entire insane situation. Because by the end, you are left with nothing. Not one answer as to what the heck you just read.

Very clever, Ms. Hill. I see what you did there.
