I remember the first time I read of City of Bones. I was convinced it was the most brilliant YA Fantasy/Paranormal series I’d ever read. I still think it’s fantastic, and I am SO excited about the movie coming out later this month!!
So let’s talk chapter 3:
So Clary and Simon are hanging out at Java Jones, their fave coffee shop to support Simon’s friend Eric, who is gracing the world with his less than pleasant poetry. After Eric begins, Clary notices Jace sitting behind her in the coffee shop, being his usual cheery, aloof self. He gets up to leave, and Clary follows him. She finds him outside in the alley, waiting for her. Jace proceeds to tell Clary about Mundanes, Downworlders, and runes, expecting for her to know more than she does. At his prompting, she discovers a mark of her own on the back of her hand, which Jace explains is given to Shadowhunter children. Jace then declares that she has to come with him to meet Hodge, his tutor, but Clary gets a frantic call from her mom before they can leave. Jocelyn makes Clary promise not to come home, and Clary can hear sounds of a struggle and glass shattering through the phone, just before the call goes dead. Clary then races home, attacking Jace to get away from him so that she can help her mom.
I remember reading this the first time. I’m pretty sure this is where I fell in love with Jace. Anyone else feel the same?

Funny enough, I was not the biggest fan of Simon in the book…HOWEVER, when they cast Robert Sheehan in the movie, I knew he would quickly become my favorite 🙂 He’s adorable (I’m partial to brunettes) so I personally find him more attractive than Jamie Campbell Bower (Jace). I’m so excited to see all these actors bring these wonderful characters to life!
Meet Simon

Simon Lewis is Clary’s best friend, before they were introduced to the Shadow world.
Prior to their lives being changed by the Shadowhunter world, Simon was an open geek and the bass player of a garage band. He was described as cute but doesn’t even realize it. He had been a vegetarian since he was 10 years old. He also often quoted different “nerdy” things, like Dungeons and Dragons.
Robert Sheehan has been cast as Simon for the upcoming film adaptation of City of Bones. Cassandra Clare made this update public through her Tumblr, saying that Robert had to test with Jamie and Lily in Toronto to see how the chemistry worked before she was allowed to publicly announce it.
