Josephine Montfort stared at the newly mounded grave in front of her and at the wooden cross marking it.

“This is the one you’re after. Kinch,” Flynn, the gravedigger, said, pointing at the name painted on the cross. “He died on Tuesday.”

Tuesday, Jo thought. Four days ago. Time enough for the rot to start. And the stink.

So, I won’t lie, this is like, the third time I’ve tried reading this book. I have it from NetGalley, and I’ve made it through about 100 pages. It just moves a tad slowly. It’s interesting, which is why I’m trying again, but I’m going to need something very exciting to happen very soon; the mystery is building, so that’s a positive, and of course, the historical setting is richly detailed, so that’s also good, but I’m quickly losing interest in the main plot. Here’s hoping it picks up in the next 100 pages.

That gives me hope then! I don’t dislike it, I just maybe have been in reading slumps the few times I’ve tried to read it; I’ve heard great things about her writing, so I’m thinking I’ll enjoy it more this time around! And yeah, this is the first in a new YA series for her 🙂
