Sometimes you pick up a book and within the first two or three chapters, you just know it isn’t for you. This doesn’t happen often, but sadly, it happened with The Secret Diamond Sisters.

I’d like to make it known that I can 100% see how this would appeal to many readers, especially lovers of YA contemporary. I think I requested this book from NetGalley nearly a year and a half ago (I know, I’m THE WORST. I’m trying to catch up on all of my old requests so that this doesn’t happen again) and I think if I had read it then, I might have enjoyed it more.

First of all, I didn’t like the basic structure of this book. The POV rotates between the three sisters, one of whom I already hated within thirty pages. Their voices were just annoying to me, I could sense they were only going to get more annoying once they had lots of money and very little supervision in Las Vegas.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a voracious reader of YA Fiction. I think I’m just growing out of the general YA Contemporary genre. Most of the conflict makes me roll my eyes and think “Just wait till you get to college. Or the real world.” Every little thing that happens is the end of life as we know it. It’s just too dramatic for me now, I think. Anyway, no rating because I didn’t get through enough of it to really feel justified in a rating.

What was the top thing I missed out on by not finishing this book? Or did you set it aside as well?
