Book: Heist Society by Ally Carter
The thing about Heist Society and The Gallagher Girls books is that they are so fun. Sure, they’re ridiculous, completely absurd and highly improbable. But that is what makes them so great. They’re sort of like a happier, teenage versions of the TV show Alias. Or Ocean’s Eleven. Very easy to read, but incredibly entertaining! Highly recommended.
Good Reads Summary:
When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her on a trip to the Louvre…to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her Uncle Eddie traveled to Austria…to steal the crown jewels. When Kat turned fifteen, she planned a con of her own—scamming her way into the best boarding school in the country, determined to leave the family business behind. Unfortunately, leaving “the life” for a normal life proves harder than she’d expected.
Soon, Kat’s friend and former co-conspirator, Hale, appears out of nowhere to bring Kat back into the world she tried so hard to escape. But he has a good reason: a powerful mobster has been robbed of his priceless art collection and wants to retrieve it. Only a master thief could have pulled this job, and Kat’s father isn’t just on the suspect list, he is the list. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat’s dad needs her help.
For Kat, there is only one solution: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it’s a spectacularly impossible job? She’s got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully just enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in her family’s history–and, with any luck, steal her life back along the way.
Rated PG-13 for sequences of intense violence and action, and some sexual references
So, Serenity is on my top five favorite movies list. I LOVE it. I’m a big Joss Whedon fan: Buffy, Angel, Avengers, Firefly, Dr. Horrible…I just think he’s a brilliant director. Serenity is really a mix of sci-fi and western (strange combo, right?), and it follows a rag-tag band of noble thieves, scavenging the galaxy for their next job. It is full of AWESOME acting (Nathan Fillion is amazing in everything he works on), BRILLIANT writing, really great special effects, some of the most awesome fight choreography…everything about this movie is awesome. As everyone says, Firefly (the TV show Serenity came from) was cancelled WAY before its time. It should never have been cancelled. I really cannot recommend this movie enough. One of my absolute faves.
From IMDB: The crew of the ship Serenity tries to evade an assassin sent to recapture one of their number who is telepathic.
TV Show: Revenge
Revenge is supposedly based on “The Count of Monte Christo”. I really enjoy this show. It’s all about…revenge! Main character Emily’s (or Amanda) father was put in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, and then was murdered. Emily swore to avenge his death by taking everyone involved down. Painful at times (especially because you see the misery Emily lives in, and you just want her to be able breathe and be happy, which of course she rarely is), and very often shocking in its twists, this show is incredibly entertaining, although very much a soap opera. I guess you could call this one another guilty pleasure.
From IMDB: The daughter of a framed executive makes it her mission to infiltrate upper Hamptons society and exact revenge on the people who set her father up.
