Saturday Shuffle #1: The Breaking of the Fellowship

This was actually a really hard choice; I wanted to pick something for the first week of Saturday Shuffle that has meant a lot to me over the years, but I also didn’t want to pick something really obscure (don’t worry, there’s plenty of that coming up). The question I asked myself was this: what is a song that I’ve listened to for as long as I can remember? What’s the ‘comfort food’ of my music library?

And really, the ONLY thing I could think of was The Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack by Howard Shore.

I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to this CD. Probably hundreds. I’m not kidding. I got the CD when it came out way back when the movie came out and I’ve been listening to it ever since. It’s my go-to when I want something with no words.  I’m incapable of picking a favorite song from this CD, but The Breaking of the Fellowship is certainly gorgeous, and it covers many of the thematic melodies of the trilogy. I’d also like to say that I adore the Two Towers and Return of the King soundtracks as well, but they haven’t been as important to me as Fellowship.

So I hope you enjoy listening to one of my favorites today, and I hope your soul feels a little lighter afterwards.

Do you remember the first time you heard the music from Lord of The Rings? Let me know in the comments how you feel about Howard Shore’s award winning score!
