Welcome to the Spread Some Indie Love Blog Hop, hosted by b00k r3vi3ws!
Who doesn’t have a favorite Indie book that they wish more people knew about? I have a few, but my very favorite would easily be The Virtual Arcana by the lovely Karen Amanda Hooper! She has multiple great series that you should check out (The Kindrily Series is AWESOME, and the first book, Grasping at Eternity is FREE on Amazon – check it out here).
But we’re here today to talk about The Virtual Arcana. I was very fortunate to get to read this book in sections, as ARC’s, serially. Sounds unique and different, right? Karen was trying something new, and I loved getting those emails saying she had finished the next section and was sending it to us to read. The copies I’m giving away will be full, complete copies, not in sections, but it was a fun experience (and terrible at times, because of cliffhangers) to read them serially.
The Virtual Arcana will MESS WITH YOUR MIND. This is some really great sci-fi brain teasing action, folks. If you enjoy movies like Inception where you’re constantly wondering if you’re awake, or if something is real, you’ll enjoy The Virtual Arcana. There were times were I’d finish a section and immediately email Karen and say WHAT JUST HAPPENED? WHY YOU DO DIS?
Anyway, this book is incredibly well written, with likable characters, some adorable romance, and some CRAZY mind twisting sci-fi action.
Also, did I mention my review is quoted on the beautiful hardcover version? 🙂

Kelsey loves books and lattes, preferably together, and is the kind of girl who follows rules to the letter. Unfortunately, her twin sister is obsessed with outlawed virtual reality… a bad vice to have when the government controls everything from entertainment privileges to caffeine consumption.
If her sister would just keep her nose out of trouble, maybe they could survive senior year. But when Kelsey meets a charming book connoisseur and accepts his offering of a tarot card, she takes the first step toward her own risky addictions: the guy of her dreams, and his virtual escapes into her beloved storybooks.
But the tarot cards can’t guarantee a happy ending when the line between reality and fiction becomes dangerously blurred.
About the Author:
Born and bred in Baltimore, frolicked and froze in Colorado for a couple of years, and I’m currently sunning and splashing around Florida with my two beloved rescue dogs.
I’m addicted to coffee, chocolate, and complicated happily-ever-afters. I am a constant work in progress. Due to my strong Disney upbringing, I still believe in fairy tales and will forever sprinkle magic throughout all of my novels.
A self-proclaimed twisted little pixie, I believe that magic and true love really do exist, even in a world that can be ugly at times. I like to dance down rabbit holes and ride shooting stars while playing a never-ending game of “Imagine If…” Then I write about my fantastical musings and call myself an author. I can’t imagine doing anything else. I love storytelling way too much.
You’re so awesome. I’m beyond honored that you selected my book. Big hugs to you. xoxoxo
Of course!! They (and you) deserve it!!! 🙂 I love getting to share them!

I read a lot. Not sure which books were indie though.
I know exactly what this is like, egging on the friend/author to hurry up with the next part, gee fantastic but have you got more, yes great and keep it coming until the end, what? You can’t do that, no not to me, come on what happens next? Okay okay, then hurry up and write the sequel so I can read that and find out… Been there done that many times being a friend, critique partner, the silent partner of writing partners who suggests and helps, to proofreader, copy and/or line editor. So I am with you and as a book reviewer has had my review up on sites, book blurbs, forwards, in a book and cover as well. So now you made me want to read Virtual Arcana badly. So kudos to you both Amanda and Jessica. Just thought you two should know it.
Sorry early a.m. and my mistake, yes typo argh it is Karen Amanda Hooper and Jessica since I hate typos so I am blaming it all on the 1:50 in the morning making me miss part of her name. I am sorry.
I recommend The Rush by Rachel Higginson and Must Love Otters by Eliza Gordon
