In response to my fascination with the “ancient driftwood temples” of the beaches and my speculation as to their origins, my mother had given me a picture book of the various amazing structures of the ancient world. You know the type of book I mean. The Pyramids of Giza, Mayan Temples, Stonehenge, all those kinds of things. But the one that really caught my eye and fired my imagination was in the far-off jungles of Cambodia: the temples of Angkor. And so it was on that particular summer day that I decided to reconstruct the temple of Angkor Wat on the beaches of western Canada.

I am! Some of the passages get a teensy bit tedious for me, because they’re more educational about whales or the Yukon Gold Rush etc, but all in all, so far it’s very enjoyable. Kitty is a fun narrator.
