Looking for something other than the newest incarnation of Twilight to get for the YA Lover in your life? Check out my recommendations!
1. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
Sci-Fi, Dystopia, Post-Apocalyptic
Less grotesque, more romantic alternative to The Hunger Games. Under the Never Sky is probably one of my favorite sci-fi/dystopia series.
2. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Romantic Comedy
A great look at friendships and relationships in high school. Anna and the French Kiss takes place at a French Boarding School and is adorable.
3. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
Fantasy, Romance, Faeries
A seriously AWESOME series about fae that is extremely creative/whimsical/equally dark with oodles of action and romance.
4. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
Paranormal Romance, Angels
Looking for an amazingly creative and bizarre fantasy story about angels and a mysterious creature that creates wishes using teeth? This remains one of the coolest and most creative books I’ve read. Not to mention that the love story is epic.
5. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers
Historical, Supernatural, Romance
Assassin Nuns trying to keep the kingdom together while carrying out the will of Death himself. It doesn’t get more awesome than this.
6. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Fairy Tale Retelling, Sci-Fi/Dystopia, Romance
My favorite series currently. Strong characters, lovely romances, plenty of Fairy Tale elements. Tons of fun.
7. Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson
Sci-Fi, Dystopia, Superheroes
A great option for guys (though it’s also one of my faves as well). Awesome sci-fi action.
8. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Paranormal Romance, Vampires
On the vampire train? Pick up Vampire Academy, which is a MUCH better alternative to Twilight. VA is an excellent series that even has a (possibly better?) spin-off series called Bloodlines. I highly recommend VA.
9. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Fantasy, Romance
Looking for that classic “other world, magic-filled” fantasy? Graceling has a strong and fascinating heroine who has to deal with a lot of personal issues on top of being an assassin.
10. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
Contemporary, Drama, Romance
Jellicoe Road is a really interesting story of a girl trying to understand her mysterious past while dealing with the politics of an Australian boarding school. A really great read.
What are some books you would get for the YA lover in your life?
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted weekly by The Broke and the Bookish.
I LOVED Akiva in The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series. I also nominate Will AND Jem from The Infernal Devices series. 🙂

What a wonderful, wonderful list. It inspires me to rush out and grab alll the ones I haven’t read on the list because I fully echo your enthusiasm for Cinders, Graceling, Steelheart and Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I’d add Pierce Brown’s Red Rising trilogy, too:)
